The film was reported to have been in the works since December 2006, when Suresh Krissna, an independent producer and the CEO of MTG, approached Suri and stated that they wanted to make a film with him. Suri, upon reading the script, was interested in the story, and agreed to participate on the condition that the film would be made with a budget of only one crore. Suri had never acted in the Telugu language before, and chose to sign up for the film because he wanted to work with director Victor, who had produced the Hindi film Aashiqui 2, which Suri liked very much. Suri was paid one crore for the film. The production cost of the film was reported to be around.
Principal photography began on September 26, 2009 at Film City in Chennai. After a month of filming, the production went to Marine Drive in Mumbai for the shoot of the final portion of the film, which was in the Durbar Hall of Central Railway Building.
The film released on 9 May 2010 on over 3,000 screens worldwide. The film released in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka at the same time, on June 29, 2010. It opened to positive reviews from the critics, with the Times of India describing the film as "charming" and "heartfelt".
