I have probook 6550b and i upgrade win7 to win10 64bit. The problem is that drivers for win10 are not available on HP support and using the drivers pack of win07 dont cover all the hardware components of the laptop. I experience problems with the wifi drivers that not loading on laptop startup and i can see on the device manager that not all the hardware is recognize.

Basically i have mainly problem with the wifi drivers but when i tried to work with USB wifi dongle i experienced as well many problems. I can see on the device manger some unknown devices, not sure what components this is.

I have two older laptops (HP Probook 6550b) that we keep in inventory for our technicians to use older software tools on (HVAC control software). We keep them mainly because some of our older software does not like USB to serial adapters and these laptops have a physical serial port.
Anyway, I took these out of storage recently to update and get them ready for use. I noticed right away that none of the USB ports on the laptops worked (ive never tried them before). Mice, keyboards, thumbdrives, nothing worked. Windows made no visual or audio cues to show it was aware anything was plugged in. I noticed in device manager that there was an unknown device in the USB section. I did all the usual...delete/redetect, install chipset drivers, etc...but nothing worked.
I found on another forum that another user with the same issue on the laptop fixed it by forcing the driver to USB root hub. That worked on one laptop, i was able to use USB devices, even thought the unknown device came back on the next boot, but USB still worked. The other laptop still has no USB functionality.
Upon checking the details, I see "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43). Problem is Im not really sure what device this is. Device description shows USB\UNKNOWN. Various other details show USB root hub, and no version of the driver seem to be correct. I was able to get the VID & PID from the other laptop, but PCI database and google only show it is an Intel device. Drivers from HP for that laptop and the Intel Driver Updater dont work either. Any ideas?
I don't know if this is related to the USB problem, but in the past whenever I've upgraded HP laptops to Windows 7, those errors in Device Manager have always been related to a CF reader or a biometric device that was missing a driver.

I did download and install that Intel driver installer, even though I have been through 3 or 4 others that all seem to work, just not for this one device. Upon installing this driver, Windows informed me that I had a unrecognized USB device (duh). Now instead of the code34, I have code 10 "the device cannot start."
After reviewing them, the consultant provides the following feedback:"HP ProBook 6550b Notebook PC It is obvious from the posted Device Manager image that you are yet using generic Microsoft USB drivers and not specific Intel as you have been advice earlier to install.

I concur, I have seen stranger things. But seeing as the same exists on multiple machines, thats what makes me think it has got to be some kind of a driver issue, but all attempts thus far to fix it have brought up zero results. Ive pretty much thrown in the towel at this point. 2b1af7f3a8
